Pool inspection cost in Sydney

Council fees are set by regulation and private certifiers set their own. Here's what each one publishes, so you can compare before you book.

  • Sydney council pool inspection fees
  • Private pool certifier prices in Sydney
  • Re-inspections and extras

The short answer

Councils typically charge $150 for the first inspection and $100 for a re-inspection; some charge a single $250 fee that includes one re-inspection. Among Sydney private certifiers, The Pool Certifier Guy publishes $295 including GST (page modified 14 August 2026) and Pool Certification Sydney publishes $450 plus GST.

Council inspection fees

A council's fee for inspecting a pool is set under clause 19 of the Swimming Pools Regulation 2018, which several council forms cite. Councils word the re-inspection fee differently: some charge $100 for each re-inspection, Woollahra says no fee can be charged for a third or later inspection, and Northern Beaches, Ryde, Randwick and Sutherland Shire bundle the first inspection and a re-inspection into one fee.

What changes the price

  • Re-inspections. If the pool fails, a second visit costs extra: $100 at most councils, and from $195 including GST to $350 at the private certifiers above.
  • Spas. The Pool Certifier Guy prices a spa inspection at $195 including GST, less than a pool.
  • Strata and shared pools. Pool Safe Sydney charges $450 plus GST for a strata pool, and Pool Certification Sydney $495 plus GST for a shared or apartment pool.
  • Distance and urgency. Pool Certification Sydney adds $50 plus GST for travel over 40 km and $100 plus GST for an urgent inspection. The Pool Certifier Guy adds $110 outside Sydney metro.
  • Repairs. Fixing defects is a separate cost. See pool fence repair costs.

How to keep the cost down

  1. Run the pool barrier checker and fix the easy items before anyone visits.
  2. Ask whether the price includes the certificate and what a re-inspection costs.
  3. Compare the council's fee with private certifiers, then weigh it against how soon you need the certificate.

Common questions

How much is a pool compliance certificate in NSW?

Through a council, typically $150 for the first inspection and $100 for a re-inspection, the figures Waverley, Woollahra and Bayside publish for 2026. Among private Sydney certifiers, The Pool Certifier Guy publishes $295 including GST (page modified 14 August 2026) and Pool Certification Sydney publishes $450 plus GST.

Is the certificate included in the inspection price?

Usually. Pool Certification Sydney and Sydney Pool Certificates both describe their price as covering the inspection and certificate. Ask before booking, and ask what a re-inspection costs.

Do council pool inspection fees include GST?

Woollahra Council says there's no GST on its fee. Most councils don't say either way.

Why are private certifiers more expensive than council?

Council fees are set under clause 19 of the Swimming Pools Regulation 2018, as several councils note. Private certifiers set their own prices, and booking times vary, so ask when they can come if a sale or lease has a deadline.

What does it cost to register a pool?

Registering online on the NSW Swimming Pool Register is free. Some councils, including Ku-ring-gai and Fairfield, will register it for you for $10. See the register guide.
