Big backyards are common across the south west, and so is everything that ends up in them: barbecues, eskies, outdoor furniture and pot plants, often pushed up against the pool fence. Anything a child could climb within 900 mm of the outside of the fence is a fail.
Camden's growth areas also have semi-rural properties, farm stays and holiday lets. Camden Council's program names Airbnb and farm stays as tourist accommodation, which the council inspects every 3 years.
What each council charges
Council inspection fees are set under the Swimming Pools Regulation 2018, so a council is usually the cheapest way to get a certificate. Private certifiers charge more and set their own booking times. These are the figures each council publishes, with the date of the page they come from.

Farm stays, holiday lets and big yards
If you let out a property with a pool to guests, Camden Council treats it as tourist accommodation, and those pools are inspected every 3 years. Keep the barrier and CPR sign in good order between inspections.
Before booking, clear a 900 mm zone outside the fence: move the barbecue, outdoor furniture, eskies and pot plants, and check nothing in the garden gives a foothold.

Common questions
What does Fairfield Council charge for a pool inspection?
Its October 2025 form lists $150 for an inspection, $100 for a re-inspection and a $100 compliance certificate fee for pensioners. Confirm with the council how the pensioner fee applies.
Is an Airbnb with a pool inspected by Camden Council?
Camden's program names Airbnb and farm stays as tourist accommodation, which the council inspects at least every 3 years.
Will a barbecue against the fence fail the inspection?
Yes, if it's within 900 mm of the outside of the fence, because a child could climb it. Move it before the certifier arrives.
